Consultation on opening a Sixth Form in partnership with Birmingham City Football Club

    Tuesday 28th January – Tuesday 10th March (9am)

We are proposing to open a new Sixth Form at our school, which will host Birmingham City Football Club’s community education provision.

What will opening a Sixth Form mean for King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy?
Currently, King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy offers no Sixth Form provision. The proposed Sixth Form will mean that students wishing to continue their education in the field of sports coaching and sports development will have the opportunity to do so here. Both Balaam Wood students and external students would be able to apply for places.

What are the benefits of the proposed Sixth Form partnership?
We believe there are many benefits:
    • The new Sixth Form will offer an opportunity for pupils in the area to access a specific type of provision (sports development) through a prestigious provider that they would not otherwise have access to
    • The partnership between the school and Birmingham City Football Club will bring about a focus on reducing the number of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) and improving employment prospects for young people in the south of city, including the Frankley and Northfield area
    • Birmingham City Football Club will bring significant expertise in sports coaching and sports development to the school, benefitting the school community more widely than just through the Sixth Form

    How would the admissions work?
The school is consulting on adopting a Sixth Form PAN of 100, which will mean that there would be 50 places in Year 12 and 50 places in Year 13. For further information, please look at the admissions information document which can be found on our website.

    What else will change?
We do not envisage any other changes at this time.
