Governors

Valerie Allen

I have worked for Birmingham LA as a teacher and then City Learning Centre Manager for 37 years. The CLC was linked to Balaam Wood School, which is how my association with this school began. I have been able to take on more Governor duties since I retired and am proud to now be the Chair. I am very lucky to have a fantastic team of governors to work with. I also look after a growing number of grandchildren. I enjoy exercise classes and am currently training to be a Yoga teacher.

Lynda Roan

I have been a governor at Balaam Wood School since 2012 and it is a real privilege to be Vice Chair of the Governing Body. My professional background was in education for over 40 years, having been the Headteacher of a secondary school and a National Leader of Education. Whilst I take a particular interest in teaching and learning, safeguarding and personnel, I hope my skills and knowledge help support the strategic development of the school. In my spare time I enjoy travelling, meals out, Trefoil Guild and supporting a youth group and another governing body.

D O'Donnell

I have worked at Balaam Wood for the last 8 years. I started as weekend caretaker and now work as the Site Manager. I have lived in Frankley for 13 years. I have five children. Two have attended Balaam Wood and now left, one is attending Balaam Wood and I have two at local primary schools, so I have a good knowledge of the school as an employee and as a parent.

Jemma McCann
Ann Bowden

I have been a school governor in Primary and Secondary schools for 28 years because I am passionate about children and their education. I work as a Lab Technician in a Secondary school so I am very familiar with the day to day life of a school and love the opportunity it gives me to get know the pupils as well as the staff. In my spare time I play the piano, working towards Grade 8, and I enjoy crafts, knitting and sewing.

J Quinn

I started teaching in Balaam Wood School in 2004. I am the faculty leader of the Physical Science faculty. I sit on the Governing body as the Staff representative. In that time I have been a member of the Teaching and Learning committee and in recent months have joined the Premises and Finance committee to further my understanding of the role of the Governing body. In my spare time I enjoy reading, socialising, cycling and returning home to Ireland to visit my family.

L West

I have worked at Balaam Wood school as Catering Manager for 6 years. In that time I have really got know the staff and children, so I was very pleased to be asked to be a governor 4 years ago. Although I was a little nervous at first I soon settled in to being one of the team. I have learnt a lot about how a school works and how hard the staff work. In my spare time I enjoy walking my dog, sewing and reading.
